Prim has nightmares about Katniss being reaped (AU-ish):
Primrose Everdeen had nightmares. As if living in a poor district, almost starving to death, at the age of only 12 years wasn’t enough, her dreams haunted her.
“Katniss Everdeen!” the district escort cried. Prim froze, choking on air. Her big sister, the one girl who cared for her when no-one else even noticed. The one 16 year old who protected her. The one person she was certain she loved was being taken away from her.
“No!” Prim screamed, as she awoke. Running towards her was Katniss herself. Prim leaped into her arms, giving her the biggest hug.
“Just a dream.” Katniss whispered. “Just a dream, little duck.”
Prim couldn’t bare to tell her the truth, afraid to even confirm her dream. “It was me.” she muttered.
Katniss understood these words, and she pulled her closer. “It’s your first year, Prim. Your name’s only been in there once. They’re not going to pick you.” The words were harsher than she intended, but what else could she do?
Prim nodded. The odds were in her favour. But they were not in Katniss’.
How many times was her name in there? Twenty. Twenty is a lot, compared to other kids. Katniss’ best friend, Gale- his name is in there forty-two times. She felt sympathy for them both.
“Deep in the meadow… Under the willow.” Katniss began to sing. She began to the song that always gave Prim hope. The song that Katniss always sung when Prim was scared. Quietly, Prim sung along, until she fell asleep.
However, when she did fall asleep, she returned to that horrible nightmare. It was truly the worst of her nightmares.

Strange little things: The Hunger Games →

night-time-wondering:

Good trilogy, but really it’s the last book that makes it. It takes you from a humour the other books lack to crushing tragedy in a few pages so frequently it’s an emotional rollercoaster. None of the characters are perfect, none completely loveable, bar maybe Prim, yet all have their own…
